Tudor, Rolex’s sister brand, has been producing Submariners since 1954, beginning with the reference 7922. Conceived as a more affordable alternative to the Rolex Submariner, Tudor Subs remained in production until 1999. It’s no secret that we love vintage Tudor Subs here at Falco. Aside from the movement, these watches were largely manufactured by Rolex. But while Rolex took a steady, conservative approach, Tudor enjoyed far greater creative freedom—leaving behind a brilliant catalogue of Submariners: black, blue, Snowflake, Lollipop... the list goes on.

The reference 79090 is a well-loved neo-vintage classic, a direct contemporary of the Rolex 16610 and one of our favourites here at Falco. By comparison, the ref. 75090 and 73090 remain well under the radar, even among seasoned collectors. The “mid-size Subs” and “mini-Subs” were unique to Tudor and never appeared in the Rolex catalogue. Despite their smaller dimensions, they sacrificed none of the functionality found in their larger siblings.

The ref. 75090 here features a 36 mm case and wears exceptionally well on the wrist. This example is fitted with the black dial, while the tritium lume on the markers and hands have aged to a wonderful creamy hue. The original black bezel insert, complete with its tritium pearl, has retained its rich creamy colour beautifully.

The original 9315 bracelet shows negligible stretch and features an S2 (February 1994) clasp, matching the watch’s year and month of sale. It will accommodate wrists up to 19 cm. The movement came to us in perfect health, running at +3 s/d, with 285° amplitude and a 0.1 ms beat error.

The watch comes complete with its inner and outer boxes, both booklets, and its original punched guarantee papers, showing the original sale in Naples.

A lovely, honest neo-vintage Tudor that offers tremendous value and all the charm of its larger Submariner siblings.
