The Oyster Perpetual Date 1530 was born during one of the most turbulent periods in the Swiss watch industry: even for Rolex. The quartz crisis hit the industry like a first drink on an empty stomach. In the 1970s, rather than relying on the Beta 21, Rolex decided to develop its own quartz movement. It didn’t happen overnight, however, and Rolex chose to test the integrated bracelet design (later used for the Oysterquartz) with its workhorse Calibre 1570. The result is the watch here, the ref. 1530, made only for around 2 years between 1975 and 1977.
