It’s common knowledge that vintage two-tone Rolex sports models often don’t receive the same love as their stainless steel or full precious metal siblings, though we’re not entirely sure why. The 16713 has a stainless steel and 18k yellow gold construction, which works wonderfully with the brown and beige tones, giving it its “Root Beer” nickname.
This 2000 example took over three years to sell in Worcester, UK, with an RRP over 50% higher than the 16710 at the time. The watch was clearly admired rather than worn over the years. There are barely any signs of wear: the sunburst brown dial is beautiful, as is the root beer–coloured bezel. The original “DE”-stamped bracelet shows no stretch, with only faint marks on the gold portions, something extremely common for these models.
