The GMT-Master is one of the world’s most iconic watch designs. Originally created for airline pilots, it now graces the wrists of collectors and enthusiasts alike. The GMT-Master began its life in 1954 with the ref. 6542, featuring a 38mm case and bakelite bezel. After a short four-year production run, Rolex introduced the 1675, which remained in production until 1980.
In 1980, Rolex released the ref. 16750 with the upgraded calibre 3075, which provided a quickset date function. A slightly thicker case was used to accommodate the new movement, which also offered improved water resistance. Early 16750 models featured matte dials similar to the 1675, before being replaced by gloss dials in 1984.
The present example, a gloss-dial 16750, is in fantastic condition. The dial is flawless, and the now-inactive tritium lume on the markers and hands has developed an even, deep cream patina. The case remains unpolished. It comes on the correct K-stamped 78360/580 Oyster bracelet, which is also in great condition. The bracelet is one link short.
The watch has been freshly serviced and is running perfectly at –2 s/d, 300 amps, with a 0.2 ms beat error.
