Looking at our site, it appears that we are collecting every variation of the Polar Explorer (and you wouldn’t be wrong…). From cream dial and satin dial 16550s to chicchi and Tritinova 16570s, the various little quirks add amazing character to the white-dial sports Rolex, which in itself is already unusual. That said, those rare beauties can sometimes distract us from just how good the watch is in its standard form.
The 40 mm case wears incredibly well on the wrist. Paired with the bulletproof calibre 3185, featuring an independently adjustable hour hand and true GMT functionality, the crisp white dial, and still-functional Super-LumiNova markers, this an ideal watch for our exciting day jobs or a week on the slopes.
This example is exactly that. Originally sold in 2001 in Copenhagen, it features a lovely case, a flawless dial, and the original 78790A (DE3-stamped) bracelet with minimal stretch. The movement has just been checked over and is running at +1 s/day, with an amplitude of 288° and a beat error of 0.1 ms.
The watch comes complete with all of its original boxes, paperwork, and accessories, ready for its next adventure.
