The ref. 5040 is easily one of the most underrated and undervalued Patek Philippe complications of the last 30 years. While the ref. 3940 is finally receiving the attention it deserves, its tonneau-shaped sibling—housing the exact same calibre—can still be found at relatively reasonable prices (by Patek Philippe standards).

Most ref. 5040s were produced in yellow gold, with some in white gold and very few in platinum. The applied Breguet numerals on this example are simply exceptional. A wonderful watch that has now found its place in one of the most impressive collections we know of.
