Originally founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun in Le Locle, Doxa began as a traditional Swiss watchmaker. However, it was in the mid-20th century that the brand truly made its mark in the world of dive watches. For dive watch enthusiasts, it's well known that Doxa was a true innovator and market leader in purpose-built dive tools. The tonneau-shaped Sub 300 and Sub 300T not only featured bold, forward-thinking designs but also introduced technical innovations such as helium escape valves and uni-directional bezels—features that were later adopted by industry giants like Rolex and Omega.
Like many other brands, Doxa was hit hard by the quartz crisis. The Sub 300T, introduced in 1968, was discontinued just a few years later in the mid-1970s, leaving very few original examples in circulation today. Thankfully, the brand has seen a revival in recent years, with well-received reissues that have reignited interest in these historically significant models.
The watch we have here is a fantastic time capsule. The case proudly shows the character it has earned over the years, with no signs of polishing or aesthetic refinishing. The original dial is absolutely gorgeous—the tritium lume has aged to a warm, creamy tone, offering beautiful contrast against the matte black background.
Remarkably, the watch retains its original full-length beads of rice bracelet. The movement has just been serviced and is running strong at +5 s/d, 299 amplitude, with a 0.6 ms beat error. This is easily one of the coolest watches we have in stock—a reminder of why we love vintage watches.
