In 2000, Chopard surprised the watch world with one of haute horlogerie’s most interesting movements in quite some time — the L.U.C. Cal. 1.98, featuring four barrels and an impressive nine-day power reserve. Amazingly, the team led by Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele achieved all of this in a compact 38 mm case (ref. 16/1863), measuring only 9.5 mm thick.
The 16/1863 received COSC certification as well as the Geneva Seal. The seemingly impossible combination of a nine-day power reserve and the proportions of a classic dress watch makes the Mk I Quattro one of the most unique offerings on the market. This example features an 18k white gold case and a mesmerisingly beautiful blue dial, with a central guilloché finish, applied spearhead markers, a date window at 6 o’clock, and a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock.
