In recent years, “mid-size” Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks, including the 4100, 14700, 56023, and this example, the 14790, have exploded in popularity. Despite their 36 mm cases, these mid-size references wear closer to 38–39 mm thanks to the shape of their integrated lugs, whereas the Jumbo 5402 wears more like a 42 mm watch. 

This particular example features a petrol-blue colour "prototype" MK1.5 dial: there are no minute hash marks to be seen, the “Audemars Piguet” signature resembles that of Mk2 dials but is smaller, whereas the “Automatic” signature follows that of Mk1s. Now spending its time amongst a very impressive collection that's close to our hearts.
