The “Great White” version of the Sea-Dweller 1665, when unveiled, offered one noticeable modification compared to its predecessors: the addition of the conspicuous white Sea-Dweller script on the dial—an attribute that earned the watch its “Great White” nickname.
The Mk4 variation is the last of the 1665 Sea-Dwellers, beginning around the mid–late 6M serial range and running through to the end of production in ’83.
The watch has been polished in the past, but the case remains full and thick. The bezel, along with the rare transitional caseback, is our favourite feature—a subtle blue hue has developed over time, giving this piece a unique character. The original H-stamped 93150/555 bracelet is in great condition; it is one link short, though replacements can be sourced if necessary. The watch will accommodate a 19 cm wrist.
The dial is in great condition, and the patina is gorgeous, having spent the past decade in Asia. The hour hand has had some stabilisation to the lume, while the minute hand remains untouched, displaying the correct “confetti”-style tritium.
Having just passed a 10-bar pressure test, the watch is running very well at +2 s/d and 250 amps. A superb example of one of the greatest four-digit sports Rolexes ever made.
